1st Devlog of 2023 - Man with a plan


Exactly 30 days have been passed since the launch of the demo of this first chapter, let’s see what happened during this time:

  • –– First Impressions ––

Oh wow, I had multiple game projects in the past that I have never completed nor published. But after being a NSFW artist for 2 years, I knew it was time to go to the next step in my “career” and not only make a game, but also complete it and publish it. The first 24 hours after publishing the demo were WILD, hit 1000 followers on twitter, and got 1000 downloads (1/5 of current total downloads!) From that moment I knew there was no coming back from this train.

  • –– Feedback ––

One of my (many) fears, was not receiving enough feedback, and not knowing if people liked or not the project… Maybe all those downloads and visits were just clicks, but that’s all, no more involvement! But NO!, I was wrong, I received so many messages, both here on itchio and in Twitter, even on my personal Discord! There were posts on 4chan, 8chan, Facebook, F95Zone, Twitter, Telegram and who knows what other places, commenting about this game, I was really surprised seeing on itchio’s stats all the clicks coming from different sites.

  • –– Development of the demo, the do’s and don’ts ––

This part COULD be more interesting to game devs, or people interested in making a nsfw game in the future, still, it’s an easy read without specific language

I started this project on June 2022, slowly, but safe, all while drawing commissions and dealing with college. I did so much research everywhere, and downloaded all those nsfw renpy games I played in my teen years both for inspiration, but also in a critic way (What I would change? What aspect I liked the most?…)

Absolute gems like: Rogue-like: Evolution, 4 Element Trainer, Ben X Slave Quest, and some newer games I didn’t knew until recent times, like: Gem Domination, and Operation: N.O.V.E.L

After all that… Ahem… Research, I had some conclusions for my future game:

- If the IP I’m going to make a parody of, has a very cartoon-esqe style, I should adapt it to my style. I’m personally a nsfw, with my own style, AND I noticed that every fandom’s “rule34 community” has a heavy division: On-style porn vs Non-On-Style porn. (western cartoon in special). What was my solution to this project? SAME art vibes, DIFFERENT art style.

- Variety + Quality - File size = Worth the download. Oh yes, this is very important, I hate having to download 1Gb for only 3 scenes with tons of resource-consuming “variations” that you will see only once in the entire gameplay, specially on mobile… “I don’t need any uncompressed 1920 x 1080 videos on my tiny, 10 years old phone!! I just want to quickly download a game a fap to it!!”

- Tons of text doesn’t equal scrip quality. I mean, yes, I enjoy reading… books, fanfics, and SFW visual novels or RPGs. I think that a game centered on nsfw images, should have some limits on the amount of text. All of this, doesn’t mean either that the script should be bad or rushed, or isn’t important. My advice to anyone wanting to make a game: Find a writer who can make your story consistent in the correct amount of lines/words.

- Don’t use Renpy’s default User Interface or fonts in big projects. Try to learn how to modify it, and exploit that to make those menus and dialog boxes blend with your story and art style. Remember this: You don’t need to be a graphic designer to make a better UI than Renpy’s

- If you work pretty fast, go for episodic releases instead of a BIG, “indivisible” project. Working for so many months can lead into a burnout or getting bored. This doesn’t mean that you have to make an announcement and promote your game on day 1 of development, this a big problem on some developers, even if the idea is super cool, don’t even YOU, the developer, know how good/bad the idea is until you get some of the work done.

- Notice the flaws of the source that you are making a parody of. - most Loud House fans will relate to this:

The Loud House presents a really nice and solid cast on the first season, but concentrates too much on Lincoln and Clyde, and the rest of the seasons concentrate too much on new, secondary characters that nobody cares about… HELLO??? It’s called ‘The Loud House’, and the premise is about a guy with 10 sisters, not about the brother’s dog of the friend of the neighbor from an alternate timeline, who cares about them? show me the Loud family!!

  • –– Developing of the first chapter —–

  • Script

CatSpeaker, the fanfic writer helping me, who practically rewrote the entire demo into a more on-character, high quality script, is pretty busy right now, so I’m trying my best from this experience to make the best work possible in a language that isn’t my first to complete this chapter for now. Even when I do write in English pretty well (This entire devlog is being written by me without using any web translator), I want this game to have the best quality on dialogs as possible.

  • Art

I made lots of new sprites for Lincoln’s sisters and more, made a new banner/main menu image that I will start using to promote the game after the full release of this chapter. Added an introduction to the characters (Inspired by Danganronpa, without rip-offing it) both to make sure that players that are new to The Loud House could feel more comfortable without needing to visit the show’s wiki, and for setting the players who are already fans of the show, into the timeline. (Quick rundown: finishing the 3rd season, but adding some important stuff from newer seasons.)

  • Music & Sound

This is my personal hardest aspect of making the game, I want HIGH QUALITY (music that fits the settings, not talking about bitrate) music, and the free stuff is VERY good, but… I should be more conformist, and not push this too high… Anyways, after releasing the full chapter, I will start looking for a composer to commission.

  • Code

Various new animations added to the sprites! this means more variety, body expressions and more life into the game without drawing tons of facial expressions that nobody will notice. More transitions, moves for ins and outs of scene of the characters, and such.

  • Support

OMG, thank you guys a lot! 11 supporters on Fanbox in total (since the announcement of the game, BEFORE the launch of the demo) and 6 sales on itchio. I made an investment on this PC, and bought 500 GB of storage, as I’m getting low on space here with all the source files of both commissions and the game, plus all the game stuff and softwares. Thank you again, you are making this project possible!

  • Future content:

What about the future of the game? what happens after this first episode? The next one starts! I plan at least one for every “fuckeable character” so there is plenty of space to explore. Tier 2 supporters already have seen some WIPs of what the completed 1st chapter and 2nd chapter will have!
